FAQ: The Tycho Puzzle

Can I add other Craighill products onto my reward?

Sure you can. First, become a backer and pick your reward. Then, you don’t need to do anything else until the campaign ends. When the campaign ends (middle of November) we’ll send you a survey to collect your shipping information. In that survey you’ll be able to add on any additional Craighill items you want (anything found at craighill.co) and pay us the extra amount right then and there.

When we ship your reward, we’ll include those extra items in the same shipment.

Note that we’ll give a special Kickstarter discount for all add-on items. That discount is TBD, but will likely be about $5 to $10 off each product.

How is the Tycho Puzzle manufactured?

The Tycho Puzzle has a surprisingly complex manufacturing process, with very tight tolerances in order to maintain a solid fit. It’s manufactured using a a ceramic shell die-casting technique.

Wax positives of the parts are cast using a precisely milled steel mold (or ‘die’). Those waxes are dipped repeatedly into a ceramic liquid, which hardens into a shell around the wax. The wax is melted out, and molten stainless steel or brass is poured into the (now empty) ceramic shell.

After the metal cools, the ceramic shell is removed and the parts are checked for accuracy. The critical surfaces of each part get machined clean, the puzzles are assembled, and then the exterior faces get sanded and brushed to the final finish.

We skipped a few steps in explaining the above, feel free to reach out if you want more information.

Where is the Tycho Puzzle made?

The Tycho Puzzle is manufactured and assembled by our partner factory in Dongguan, China. Our manufacturing partners worked with us on the Venn Puzzle as well, and we are proud to be using the same skilled folks and facilities for manufacturing and assembly that we used for our last Kickstarter campaign.

Shipping: Do you ship internationally? What carrier will you use? Duties & Fees?

DOMESTIC: If you’re in the US, we’ll be shipping your package out of our Brooklyn fulfillment center using a ground service (USPS priority or UPS depending on package size and destination). These packages will have tracking information that will work within the US.

INTERNATIONAL: We’ll ship all international orders from our Brooklyn fulfillment center. We’ll be utilizing carriers that have reliable tracking information, and the carriers will vary by specific territory. All shipments will be subject to local duties and taxes.

Note that we cannot alter the value of your rewards on customs declarations - the value will be declared as the total value of the items contained in the shipment.

Shipping: When will I receive my puzzle?

If all goes according to plan, we’ll be shipping the Tycho Puzzle out to all backers by the end of February 2020.

Note that this is our target shipping timeframe, based on our production schedule, and it includes ample wiggle room for unforeseen delays. But at the end of the day, it is an estimate and not a guarantee. The Tycho Puzzle is a brand new product, and a pretty complex one at that. In the unlikely event that we hit a manufacturing snag that delays our delivery timeframe, we’ll keep you closely informed and communicate with total transparency.

Shipping: Can I pick up my reward from the Craighill office in NYC?

Unfortunately we can’t do direct pickups of rewards. Our shipping system is highly automated and designed to get large quantities of stuff to people quickly and accurately, but it is unfortunately not designed to allow for manual pick-up.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
